About the Fellowship
The Carol H. Pitchersky Development Fellowship was established by the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights Education Fund (LCCREF) to honor Carol H. Pitchersky, a civil rights fundraising pioneer who passed away in 2004.
The purpose of the Fellowship is threefold:
- expanding the fundraising capacity of the nation’s civil rights community, which safeguards the civil rights, human rights and civil liberties of all Americans;
- offering opportunities for career training and advancement to minority professionals engaged in development efforts regarding social justice;
- furthering the understanding of our nation’s diversity within the science of development and donor relations.
The Fellowship program identifies and supports persons of color who are U.S. citizens with at least an undergraduate degree, who are aspiring development professionals, have demonstrated a commitment to civil rights and social justice, and wish to advance their careers in nonprofit fundraising.
Every other year, beginning in May 2006, a Fellowship will be awarded to an aspiring development professional of color. The award consists of a two-year or lengthier placement at a civil rights or human rights organization.
The host organization will be selected from one of the more than 190 LCCR member organizations or an organization in the broader social justice and cultural communities that Carol served.
During this period, the Fellow will serve as a member of the fundraising team in the host organization, assist in development operations, receive mentoring, and deepen his/her knowledge and understanding of the social justice community.
