LCCREF Programs

LCCREF is committed to supporting the civil rights coalition and educating target constituencies about the need for strong civil rights and social justice public policy.

Toward that end, LCCREF has undertaken public education and capacity building of the civil rights coalition, and intergroup relations activities and initiatives, in the following issue areas:

Ensuring Equal Opportunity

  • LCCREF has produced a number of educational materials that promote the need for equal justice and equal opportunity.
  • LCCREF closely monitors the enforcement activities of the three branches of the federal government and reports the information through the "Civil Rights MONITOR".
  • During reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, LCCREF collaborated with the Citizens' Commission on Civil Rights to highlight the critical role of the federal government in ensuring equality of educational opportunity.
  • LCCREF's Realize the Dream project is a national campaign to inform the nation on the progress made since Brown v. Board of Education, and the important work left to be done.
  • Restore Civil Rights is a national campaign to educate Americans about how our civil rights are being taken away.
  • LCCREF is working to transform the affirmative action debate so it is grounded in a factual understanding of both the progress made and the continuing racial and gender discrimination in our nation.
  • LCCREF, NFHA, and the Ad Council have launched a multimedia campaign to combat housing discrimination.

Promoting Civic Engagement

  • Civil Rights Summer
LCCREF, the Citizens' Commission on Civil Rights and the Civil Rights Project at Harvard trained the next generation of civil rights leaders.
  • LCCREF is working to increase awareness and understanding of important emerging communications and technology policy matters; place these policies higher on the agenda of national civil rights organizations; and support efforts in local communities to build diverse grassroots coalitions that will work to ensure that the interests of the under-served are represented in these debates.
  • LCCREF is working to educate the public about electoral reforms needed to assure Americans that every vote counts.
  • LCCREF's Protect Voting Rights: Renew the VRA project is a national and grassroots education campaign about the need for strong and vigorous voting rights protections.
  • The Student Activist Network is connecting students around affirmative action and other important issues on campuses nationwide.
