Transportation Bill H.R. 7

H.R. 7: An Attack on Public Transit = An Attack on Civil Rights

Take Action Now:

The American Energy and Infrastructure Jobs Act of 2012 (H.R. 7) would severely limit access to affordable and accessible public transportation and safe roadways. Call members of Congress today (202-224-3121) and tell them to Vote “NO” on H.R. 7!

H.R. 7 would gut a reliable source of funds for mass transit, which may further cripple transit systems around the country and hurt millions of people who depend on public transportation to reach jobs, doctor appointments, schools, and other necessities of everyday life.

Make your voice heard: Call your representative and tell them to vote “NO” on H.R. 7, a bill that:

33%: portion of low-income African Americans without access to automobiles

25%: portion of low-income Latinos without automobile access

12.1%: portion of low-income Whites without automobile access

~ Eliminates dedicated funding for bicycle and pedestrian programs, such as Safe Routes to School, which has created safe opportunities for children to bicycle and walk to and from schools, including students with disabilities; and those in rural and urban communities.

~ Unfairly punishes current and would-be users of public transportation, and threatens to degrade further the service and state of repair of our transit systems.

We need a balanced, bipartisan transportation policy that creates effective and fair transportation projects, and provides access to employment, health care, and schools, and other necessities of everyday life.

Take Action Now: The American Energy and Infrastructure Jobs Act of 2012 (H.R. 7) would severely limit access to affordable and accessible public transportation and safe roadways. Call members of Congress today (202-224-3121) and tell them to Vote “NO” on H.R. 7!

* Tomorrow, February 9, amplify your voice by joining a broad coalition of equity advocates in a National Call-in Day, and urge members of Congress to oppose H.R. 7!
