The Senate will soon vote on the confirmation of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to serve as Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D. Nev., has confirmed that the vote will take place before August 7.
Earlier this month, the Senate Judiciary Committee held hearings to consider the nomination, where Judge Sotomayor demonstrated that she is a uniquely well-qualified nominee, with a sharp and independent mind and a record of excellence and integrity.
If confirmed, Judge Sotomayor will be the third woman and first-ever Latina confirmed to our nation's highest court. She will bring more federal judicial experience to the Supreme Court than any justice in 100 years, and more overall judicial experience than anyone confirmed to the Court in the past 70 years.
