Dear Activist,

The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights prides itself on being a coalition that engages decision makers, regardless of party affiliation, to ensure civil and human rights for all people in the United States. We strive every day at The Leadership Conference to build a nation that is as good as its ideals.

These are challenging times. Like many, we were deeply troubled by the bigoted and divisive rhetoric used all-too frequently in the presidential campaign by President-Elect Trump. And we are further troubled by some of the individuals nominated for important posts, such as Senator Jeff Sessions for Attorney General and Stephen Bannon for senior White House counsel.

Many Americans are afraid that they will not have a welcome place in our society because of the vitriol and rhetoric of the campaign, along with these initial appointments. Campaign promises to deport millions of immigrants, expand stop-and-frisk policies, and create a Muslim registry are among these concerns. We must not allow prejudice to become policy.

We must be unified during this challenging time. We can only defend the ideals of civil and human rights by standing together to honor equal protection for all people. In coalition and in this diverse nation there is strength. We must strive to reinforce and celebrate that together.

Please stand with us by pledging to make this truly a nation as good as its ideals, for all of us.
In solidarity,

Ellen Buchman, Anjali Thakur-Mittal, Jheanelle Wilkins, Cedric Lawson, Sergio Lopez, Jordyn Bussey, Paul-Winston Cange, and Abigail Meller
