Sign the Petition: Tell The Republican Leadership to Stop Dragging Their Feet. Restore the VRA Today

In the two years since the U.S. Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act (VRA) in Shelby County v. Holder, Republican leaders in Congress have ignored widespread voting discrimination by not passing legislation to restore the VRA. By not even holding a hearing or scheduling a markup, they are complicit in the largest rollback to voting rights in 50 years.

Members of Congress who oppose restoring the VRA want us to believe that racial discrimination only exists in the history books. But the headlines tell a different story. From Texas to Wisconsin, California to North Carolina, states and localities are making it harder for voters of color to participate. Voting windows are being narrowed, polling places closed, and more barriers to voting are being enacted.

The Republican leadership can do something about it.

It’s time for them to take action on the Voting Rights Advancement Act, a bill that will restore the VRA and help ensure that voting discrimination really is a thing of the past.

Unless Congress acts, voters in 2016 will face the first presidential election in 50 years without the protections of the VRA to combat racial discrimination in voting.

Sign the petition to make sure the Republican leadership in the House of Representatives and the Senate hears from you about your support for voting rights:
