The Leadership Conference Testifies in Support of Fair and Swift Union Elections
July 22, 2011 - Posted by Ron Bigler
This week, Lexer Quamie, policy counsel at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, gave testimony in support of proposed changes that would streamline union representation elections governed by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).
In her testimony (video below), Quamie makes the point that workers' rights are civil and human rights. In a democratic society, the right to vote in elections is the foundation on which all other freedoms stand, and the ability of workers to freely participate in union elections – without excessive delays and aggressive interference from employers – is of equal importance, she said.
