Field Program Associate
The Field Program Associate works within the Department of
Field Operations (DFO) at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights
(The Leadership Conference) and The Leadership Conference Education Fund. The
Leadership Conference is the leading coalition of organizations committed to
civil and human rights in the United States and The Leadership Conference
Education Fund is the major research and education organization supporting the
coalition.
Duties and Responsibilities
Work directly with the Vice President for Field Operations and field team to:
- Provide
strategic technical support to national, state and local partner
organizations including; the campaign strategy development, grassroots
outreach and training, media and messaging. Work as a member of the field team to leverage public
education activity, training, and planning for local coalition work,
including but not limited to national conferences, national and
state-based conference calls, and state/local events as opportunities to
educate and engage grassroots leaders on these critical civil rights
issues.
- Research,
write, and post alerts and outreach pieces for online and hard-copy
publications and grassroots tool.
- Coordinate
the field department’s organizational visibility and off-line
list-building efforts, such as tabling and event attendance.
- Strategically
use social media tools and online organizing to promote field priorities
and engage diverse communities.
- Gather updates and reports on constituent
activities in the field, through conference calls and other opportunities to
connect with allies.
- Work with departmental staff in the management
and coordination of grassroots taskforces, and the development of work plans and strategies for task
force activityCoordinate national grassroots conference calls and provide
support for the administration of them.
Participate in department,
All-Staff, team, and other meetings as needed.
Skills and Experience Required
- Bachelor's
degree.
- A
minimum of one-two years technical support and field/grassroots outreach and
programmatic experience with a civil rights organization or related experience
Work with a national membership-based organization a plus.
- Excellent
writing skills, particularly as related to drafting and creating field and
training materials and tool.
- Demonstrated
understanding of and proficiency
in the use of social media and web activism software, and Microsoft
applications (i.e. Word and Excel.
- Demonstrated
ability to coordinate multiple complex tasks, organize time efficiently, and an
ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adhere to deadlines.
- Excellent
interpersonal skills, with the desire and ability to work with diverse groups
of people (including coalition partners, intra-departmental teams, interns, and
community leaders).
- A
commitment to acquiring field and outreach experience from a coalition
perspective.
- High
level of personal energy and commitment to civil and human rights are essential.
Salary and Benefits
This is a junior mid-level position, at the center of the organizations’ major work, with a starting salary in the forties, commensurate with
experience.
