Digital Television Transition Sample Letter to the Editor - Ask Newspaper to Cover DTV

Dear Editor:

We’ve been hearing a lot about the government-mandated switch from analog to digital television that will occur this coming February and the free coupon program that lets old televisions receive the new signals, but haven’t read much about the details of it in [newspaper]

We, in the [community] would appreciate [newspaper], which always does such a good job explaining consumer issues, doing an easy-to-understand article about the free government coupon program that subsidizes the cost of converter boxes that will allow old televisions to receive the new signals and continue to work next year.

This is especially important for the [community] because many live on fixed incomes, and because the [community] is disproportionately more likely to have over-the-air analog televisions that rely on rabbit ears or roof antennas for reception.

Even when people know about the coupon program, many are still confused and may feel pressured to buy a new digital television or sign up for expensive satellite or cable subscriptions when they don’t have to.

And the way [I/we] understand it, they don’t have to.

Sincerely,
