National Partnership for Woman & Families

Established 25 years ago, the National Partnership for Women & Families (NPWF) is a national advocacy organization that works on behalf of women and their families. NPWF seeks to ensure equal opportunity and economic security for women, especially low-income women and women of color.

NPWF fights discrimination in employment and education. NPWF advocates for pubic policies that help Americas balance work and family responsibilities and NPWF works for access to quality, affordable health care, including full reproductive choice.

Judith L. Lichtman

Currently serving as president, Ms. Lichtman received her law degree from the University of Wisconsin. She went on to work at the Urban Coalition at the U. S. Commission on Civil Rights, and then as the legal advisor to the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

Lichtman has taken NPWF from its inception as a small volunteer group to a national organization with a sizable membership. Under her leadership, NPWF has become one of the country's most influential political forces, shaping national policy through its advocacy, lobbying, litigation, and public education resulting in the passage of some of the most important legal protections for American women and families from the Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978 to the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) of 1993.
