FBI Hate Crime Statistics
In 1990, Congress passed the Hate Crime Statistics Act, which requires the attorney general to collect data “about crimes that manifest evidence of prejudice based on race, religion, sexual orientation, or ethnicity.” The Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program is responsible for collecting data to comply with the congressional mandate, with the cooperation and assistance of local and state law enforcement agencies.
