Women and minorities have too little control over how the media portrays their own stories and images—and that’s because there aren’t enough who are reporters, producers, and owners. But the FCC—the federal agency that regulates broadcast media—is considering policies that would make this dismal situation even worse, without identifying and redressing the reasons for the current low levels of minority and female ownership. We cannot let this happen.
Tell the FCC that you care about who owns the media… and demand that they listen to you.

Media diversity matters. And so does your voice. Tell the FCC today.

You can use the following talking points to craft your message to the FCC:
- The diversity of our nation's media system begins with a diversity of owners.
- The majority of our country's media outlets are owned by a homogenous few – ignoring the voices of many and under-serving these same communities.
- The lack of minority and female owners
- Without a diversity of owners, the images and issues covered are often inaccurate, skewed and not reflective of the many voices that the outlet should be serving.
- As you reconsider the current ownership limits, ones that consolidate the power of our media system into the hands of a few, know that these rules contribute to a lack of diversity and the stereotyped, one-sided, inaccurate and aloof coverage of minorities and the issues that effect thousands of communities nationwide.
- You can help ensure a broader, more diverse field of owners by voting against media consolidation and supporting the inclusion of more minority and female owners into the media landscape.
- True diversity starts with ownership. I urge you to support that diversity today.
- (If you have a personal example of how the lack of minority and female ownership of the media has impacted your community, make sure to include it!)
