Court Unanimously Upholds Key Provision of the Voting Rights Act
On May 30th, a federal court upheld the constitutionality of a crucial provision of the Voting Rights Act that requires certain states and localities to submit changes in voting procedures to the federal government for approval.

Protecting the Right to Vote
On May 20, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing to examine some of the barriers that may keep Americans from exercising their right to vote. The hearing addressed voter suppression, restrictive voter ID laws, and other inadequacies of the U.S. electoral system.
