Latest News"A Crisis of Conscience.” In response to recent violence in South Africa that resulted in police opening fire on striking mine workers, a diverse group of civil rights, labor, and human rights leaders have written a letter to South African President Jacob Zuma expressing that the "toll of death and injuries, and the overall context of the incident, has generated in us a crisis of conscience." The leaders, including Wade Henderson, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, welcomed news of a commission to investigate the incident and emphasized that they "unequivocally" support "the right to organize and to petition the government peacefully, through the exercise of free speech, for the resolution of legitimate grievances." ***
