Early Voting Victory in Ohio. The U.S. Supreme Court this week rejected a request by Ohio's Secretary of State to review an appeals court ruling that upheld expanded early voting days for all voters. The lower court had ruled that there is no justification for the state to permit early voting for military members while denying it to others. The victory was just the latest in a series of battles won by civil rights activists in Ohio. In a recent video, The Leadership Conference Education Fund highlighted the successful fight in Ohio to stop a restrictive voter ID law from taking effect.

ACLU: Morgan Stanley Targeted African Americans for Bad Loans. The New York Time's reports that in a lawsuit filed this week, "the A.C.L.U. claims that Morgan Stanley is culpable for predatory loans made through the New Century Financial Corporation because the investment bank lent billions of dollars to New Century, a now-defunct subprime lender, and pressured it to make troublesome loans to African-American borrowers who could not afford them."

Anti-Voter Billboards Challenged. In response, The Leadership Conference has joined partners in the Election Protection coalition to run billboards with a pro-voter counter message.

The Leadership Conference Education Fund, working with allies at the local, state, and national levels, has launched Every Voter Counts – a new campaign to focus on voter protection and turnout; to strengthen the ability of individuals and organizations to overcome barriers to the right to vote; and to increase voter turnout among underrepresented populations that are the targets of voter suppression efforts. Watch our new videos highlighting how civil rights activists have been fighting back against voter suppression laws in Ohio, Colorado and Wisconsin, and do your part to ensure that every voter counts in 2012.

Voter Registration Still Open. Numerous states still have open voter registration periods, and a handful offer in person registration on November 6. Click here to find information about voting deadlines in your state.

Voter ID Laws. Pennsylvania's strict photo ID law  will not be in effect for the 2012 election. But laws are still on the books in Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, and Tennessee requiring a government-issued photo ID to vote. Other states -- Florida, Idaho, Louisiana, Michigan, Oklahoma, and New Hampshire -- also require a photo ID. Learn more.

Be sure to check out Election Protection at www.866ourvote.org to learn what your state is requiring to vote.
