WASHINGTON -- Nancy Zirkin, executive vice president of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement after the announcement that Janet Yellen will be nominated to head the Federal Reserve:
“In a time when incredible wealth disparities have decimated low-income communities, Janet Yellen is a strong choice to bringing about a more inclusive economic recovery. She is an impeccably credentialed economist who, throughout her career, has put jobs first when considering economic policy. Her experience as Vice Chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System under Ben Bernanke will be a tremendous asset. We are confident that her nomination will garner bipartisan support and we call on the Senate to swiftly confirm her.”
Nancy Zirkin is executive vice president of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, a coalition charged by its diverse membership of more than 200 national organizations to promote and protect the rights of all persons in the United States.
