Young children are fascinated by different languages. These early years are a good time to expose them to many languages and to help them learn to enjoy and respect people whose language differs from their own. It's also a good opportunity to encourage children who speak a language other than English at home to feel good about themselves and their culture.
Family Affair
Goal:
To help children get a solid grounding in their own family's history, culture, and traditions
Materials:
Six sheets of paper per student (or three sheets, front and back)
Process:
For a wonderful take-home assignment that students can do with their families, let each child put together a "This Is My Family" booklet.
