Children are curious about the world and about how things work. Nature's variety provides a wonderful opportunity to explore similarities and differences, to accept differences as natural and inevitable, and to celebrate the beauty of all kinds of diversity. |

Light, Color, and Shadows
Goal:
To sharpen children's awareness of color and all of its subtle gradations
Materials:
Windows on Beginning Science: Light, Color, and Shadows, by Joan Westley (optional-see Resources section)
Process:
Windows on Beginning Science presents several activities related to color that are suitable for children from pre-kindergarten to second grade. Each activity provides a detailed description of materials needed, skills being developed, and ways of guiding and extending children's thinking and actions. This is an excellent resource for the science-phobic teacher. We have included a few activities from this helpful text. | | | |
