Fund's CommUNITY 2000 project. In releasing this report, LCCREF's goals are to highlight the important role that innovative public/private partnerships like CommUNITY 2000 can play in the effort to confront bigotry and bias in our neighborhoods; showcase the many innovative and creative strategies developed through the project that can be used by anyone interested in addressing community tensions and nurturing welcoming neighborhoods; and set the stage for future and ongoing coalition-based efforts to alleviate housingrelated tensions in communities throughout the nation. We also want to emphasize the critical role local fair housing centers can play in improving intergroup relations as an extension of their fair housing enforcement efforts.

Special thanks are due to Katherine Seigenthaler who wrote the report; TerriAnn Lowenthal, for her analysis of Census 2000 data; our local partners for their review and thoughtful suggestions, David Harris and Ginny Hamilton-Ashé of the Fair Housing Center of Greater Boston, Daisy Feidt and Beto Barrera of Access Living, John Lukehart and Brian White of the Leadership Council for Metropolitan Open Communities, and Mary Scott Knoll of the Fair Housing Council of San Diego; our national partner, Shanna Smith, Kathy Fletcher, and Russell Thomas of the National Fair Housing Alliance; our National Advisory Board, the Honorable Nathaniel Jones, Ronald Chisom, David Eisner, William Johnston, Dan Kessler, Jack Levin, Michael Lieberman, Moises Loza, Zixta Martinez, Bernadette Morris, Rose Ochi, Gary Orfield, Robert Pike, Juliet Saltman, Madeleine Trichel, Mary Ann Viverette, Steven Wessler, Clarence Wood, and Barry Zigas; and our project evaluators from the Center for Urban Research and Learning at Loyola University, Philip Nyden, Joe Hoereth, Maya Miskovic, and Kristina Hals, who provided valuable data. Thanks are also due to Corrine Yu, LCCREF Director of Education; Wade Henderson, Counsel to LCCREF; Lisa Haywood, Special Assistant to LCCREF's Executive Director; Anika Penn, formerly of LCCREF; David Campt; and Read Scott Martin of Group 360 Communications, who assisted in the research, writing and editing; Talia Inbar, formerly of NFHA and Linda Roman, formerly of the LCMOC; Bernard J.
