The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights

Over the years, I worked with Bill on many issues and I regret that I cannot be there in person to express my admiration for his dedication to the causes he selected to champion. It would be wonderful to be among his family, friends and colleagues sharing memories of his amazing work and applauding the recognition of his achievements. Fortunately, he leaves a rich legacy of speeches, testimony at hearings and well-documented reports by the Citizens' Commission on Civil Rights evaluating the enforcement - and lack of enforcement - of civil rights legislation under various political administrations. But I will miss his presence and that seemingly endless energy for challenging both government and "the people" to keep following that winding road to "a more perfect union." -- by Aileen Hernandez on December 1, 2010
